1 Activity To Do
Each day this week focus on consistency and self regulation. Take positive steps and move from reading to doing.
So, focus on managing strong emotional reactions with a simple, four-step process. First, identify a situation that typically triggers intense emotions. It could be a difficult conversation or a challenging task at work. Once you recognize the trigger, take a moment to pause and breathe. Inhale deeply, exhale slowly, and repeat. This brief pause helps center your emotions.
Next, consider alternative responses aligned with your values. Before reacting in your usual way, think about how you can express your emotions more constructively. As always, after the situation, reflect on how this self-regulation impacted the outcome. Ask yourself specific questions about the emotions you felt, the influence of the pause and breath exercise, the alternative responses you considered, and how practicing self-regulation affected the overall situation.
Consistent practice of these steps will not only boost your emotional intelligence but also contribute to more positive interactions (movement from reading/thinking to actually positively doing) in various aspects of your life.
Watch and notice how it goes!
(Thanks to Priya G for the great conversation and for raising the power of ‘consistency’ and the importance of ‘not just reading but taking action’)
1 Question For You
Each day this week ask yourself…
What does creativity mean to me, and how does this show up in my daily life and work?
When and how do I express my creativity in the days, weeks and months ahead? And how will I take regular, small and consistent steps to use creativity impactfully?
(Thanks to Keith S for sharing his wisdom and personal story – truly bringing to life his creativity via a great story!)
1 Idea To Consider
This week consider what Epictetus said in relation to feeling stuck.
“We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them.”
Epictetus underscores the power of personal choice and resilience in the face of challenging circumstances.
So when you are feeling stuck or challenged by your circumstances, consider the choices you are making and where your power sits?
As always, capture your reflections and thoughts.
(Amy W – you have truly taken a step and taken control. You provided the stimulus for sharing this area to be considered -so thanks!)
