1 Activity To Do
At least 3 times this week…
Have a meaningful conversation with someone from a different background or experience than your own.
Approach with curiosity, not judgment. Ask open-ended questions about their challenges and listen deeply.
Approach with curiosity, not judgment. Ask open-ended questions about their challenges and listen deeply.
Capture how the conversation made you feel, and what was the benefit of having the conversation?
(Thanks to YC, CR and the 2 coaching clients I spoke with last week. You have helped raise my awareness and sharpen my practice)
1 Question For You
This week ask yourself the following question in relation to ‘privilege’…
What does privilege mean to me?
And a follow on…
What barriers have I ever had to face, and how can I use that awareness to better understand and uplift others?
Recognising privilege isn’t about guilt—it’s about growth, empathy, and responsibility.
As Brené Brown said…
“Privilege is the ability to not have to think about something. It’s about the absence of barriers, not the presence of perks.”
Take time to really consider this question and capture your thoughts.
Over the coming weeks I will pose further questions that will help you explore ‘Privilege’ further.
(Thanks to the group that I worked with this week for engaging in this important area. Gave me plenty to think about)
.
1 Idea To Consider
Consider this quote from Desmond Tutu:
He says
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
This leads me to pose the well-known quote from Viktor Frankl who said…
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
So, consider how the choices you make today affirm your purpose and shape the life you want to lead?
Are you choosing for yourself with the same care and intention that you hope others will?
(I have had many great conversations and challenges over the past 10 days related to ‘the choices’ we make and the action that follows.)
