1 Activity To Do

Throughout this week choose and listen to at least 3 of your favorite songs from the past that have a real emotional connection.

It may be either the words or the association they have.

Notice what music does to you and the positive feelings it can evoke in you.  Capture your thoughts and feelings.

What are the songs you turn to? The Song I often return to is ‘Search for the Hero Inside Yourself’ by M People and Heather Small

(Thanks to a good friend and colleague, Emma H who is making these connections in her work and sharing with the Learning and Development community – great idea!)

1 Question For You

On a visit to the gym this week I saw a question – Why do you train?

Many of the answers were ‘to improve my physical health and well-being?’

Ask yourself each day this week – “What is the balance I give to looking after my physical health in relation to my mental health and well-being?”

It made me really think about what the equivalent of ‘the gym’ is for mental health and well-being.

Capture your reflections and make a note of the actions you need to take to get a good balance… and ensure both are being looked after!

1 Idea To Consider

Consider this analogy…

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

“Because someone bumped into me!!!”

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves… “what’s in my cup?”

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratitude, peace and humility?

Anger, bitterness, victim mentality and quitting-tendencies?

Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.

Quote of The Week

“In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.”
